Inhabitants'name: Acquaricesi

The civic coat of arms of Acquarica consists of a golden fountain with a long jet of water which underlines the The Castle Embattled towerabundance of water in this territory. The archaeological findings of the cavern of Our Lady of the Cave date to the Neolithic, the Palaeolithc and the Age of Bronze. On the walls of this cave there are some Byzantine inscriptions. We can advance two hypothesis about the origins of the village: it was probably founded in the 4th century and was a territory rich of water. The second hypothesis is that the village was founded after the destruction of three close hamlets (Cardigliano, Ceciovizzo e Pompignano). At that time the village was probably called Acquarica Lama. The village was ruled by several families: the Bonsecolos, Pasquale Guarino, Guglielmo Pisanello, Riccardo Sanginetto. In the 14th century Acquarica del Capo was ruled by: Guglielmo De Sion “Merlotto”, Syclasio, Goffredo Alemanno, Amelina Delli Castelli, Raimondello Orsini and Lorenzo Indrini. In 1476 the village was given to Roberto Securo and to Fabio Guarino in 1504. It was then ruled by the Baroness of Sant’Elia, Silvia Falconi, Giovanni Centellas, the Guarinos, the Prince Giuseppe d’Aragona, the Duke  Zunica and Luisa Riario Sforza. Among the famous people of Acquarica we remember Francesco Pedaci. He was born in 1922, tookColetta Palace his degree in Law when he was only 21 then became a notary. He loved his land and wrote several books about its beauties. He died in 1981.
