FRAZIONE
OF THE COMMUNE OF UGENTO
The name of
this frazione is closely connected to the veneration that the Romans had for
the "Dioscuri", the
 twins
Castore and Polluce, protectors of the military troops. At Gemini you can visit
Piccino Palace, Riso Palace dating back to the XVI century and the Macrì Palace
built in 1500. The Church of the Visitazione (XVI century) was restored a lot of
times in the past. The Church devoted to St. Francesco from Assisi was built in
1700, and it has got seven altars, including the high one.. The Church of the
Lady of Pompignano was erected in 1500 and the last restoration was finished in
1700. At Gemini you can also see the menhir of the Visitazione situated near the
homonym church and it is still in excellent conditions.
